When stupid things happen to stupid people... ;)

One funny day. Or not so funny. Depends on how you look at it I suppose. heh.

I get up and leave the house.

And I get to work.

Everything is good. Even my usual dick head co captain (from now on to be refered to as Otto) is in a good mood. Nothing can go wrong!! Nothing I tell you.

So first stop XXXX. To pick up a baby. Yeah, of course. A baby. Which=Incubator. Born at 30 weeks, 5 days ago, going home. She was really cute.

As I am walking to the plane the ambulance is already there. An Air Canada plane is taxiing towards the runway, and the medic looks at me, winks, and says....."so maybe one day, eh?"

I scowled. And glared. And shook my head NO. Seriously. I was a millimeter away from asking him when he would be a real medical professional and be a Dr. HA. Maybe I should start asking people those questions when they piss me off. But man. Great start. I am now in a bit of a mood, but work hard at hiding it!! LOL

Get to XXXX, and have to wait for nurse and incubator to come back from the hospital.

So we hang out in the pilot lounge and watch tv, and go and look at things in the pilot shop that we can't really afford, because hey, we are working pilots. Which means we are broke. LOL

Now it is time to go back to XXXX. Nothing eventful happens, and we then start the flight to our home base.

This is where the funny shit happens.....

So, because I will be checking out our first officer in the left seat of the plane, I have to be current in the right seat. So this leg I am doing from there. And I'll be honest with you...I really don't like flying from over there...just seems so weird. Been a long, long time since I have been an F/O, but I am doing ok (and I had better be.....sheesh...LOL).

We start our descent into home and Toronto Centre gives us our frequency change to the control tower here.

I am busy trying to be cool in the right seat, and the weather is a bit scuzzy (having to shoot the BC to mins), so I am kinda concentrating on what I am doing, and not really on Otto. Big mistake!!! LOL (but in my defense, he WAS a captain, so as far as I am concerned, I should not have had to watch him like a hawk, though knowing him and his flying I should have)

I hear him call the tower, but that is the last I remember of any dealing with them.

We land. We taxi off the runway.
Otto dials in the ground control frequency. And it is then that I notice. *EEK* That he has the WRONG tower frequency on the other radio. The one he would have been using to call the tower. Oh fuck, please let him have just changed it.......

He calls ground. And we hear this:

"XXX, I did not get ONE call from you on that approach"

OMG. We just landed without landing clearance. Oh my fucking god. This is bad. B A D.

So we taxi to the hanger and I run to the office to call them on the phone. And all was fine, the guy in the tower knows me well enough after all these years (and funny, would not know him to see him, but know his voice, been hearing it for almost 7 years.....LOL) and he just assumed we had a com failure. And he is not going to make a big fuss about it at all. Thank you!!!!!

Now I just have to write up an incident report for the big boss. Yay. Hopefully nothing big comes of it. (and it never did, whew)

So there you go. After many years flying, stupid things can happen when you get complacent. I can honestly say that before that incident that had NEVER happened to me in all those years. But that day it did. And lesson learned once again.

And I must say, I think my face was red for a few days after that one. ;)
